Apprenticeships Training Programmes

Our apprentice training programmes involve craft vocational training in engineering operations plus nationally recognised further education qualifications achieved at one of the region's colleges.

What Training Do I Receive?

There are three main components to your training programme:

  • You will participate in a programme of hands-on training aimed at equipping you with a wide range of basic engineering skills to a standard which earns you a nationally recognised practical qualification in Engineering Operations.
  • You will attend a college of Further Education on a block or day release basis to study for a recognised Engineering Qualification.
  • On successful completion of your basic training, you join your company and work towards a level 3 National Vocational Qualification which will be structured to meet your particular job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What qualifications do I need?
A. Our ideal applicant will be 16 to 18 years old and will have G.C.S.E. 'C' grades or higher in Mathematics, Science and English and have a real desire to be an Engineer.

Q. What will be my hours of work?
A. In our training centre, the hours are Monday - Thursday 7.30am to 4.00pm, Friday 7.30am to 12.30pm. These may change once you are employed within a local company.

Q. What will I wear for work?
A. Casual clothes. All overalls, safety footwear and protective equipment will be provided for you, free of charge.

Q. How long will my Apprenticeship take?
A. The duration of an Engineering Apprenticeship does not have an exact time limit. Normally you are considered to be competent after about 4 years. However, this depends on the type of job you are doing.

Q. Where will I work?
A. Your initial training will be based at our Training Centre and at a selected college. After successfully completing this training, you will take up employment in one of many companies who look to Rolls-Royce N.E.T.C. to supply them with Apprentices.

Q. What else is there?
A. We have a subsidised canteen offering a selection of reasonable priced hot meals and snacks.
